  36. listenership apple podcast and youtube if you're watching in thanks for giving us a reason to get

  37. dressed yep could have been anywhere in the world but you're here with us right now amen let's take

  38. a moment be present and recognize that it's now yep right now whether you're listening from running

  39. driving working playing if you're at the gym rolling some jujitsu and you're listening to

  40. the podcast that that's a scary dude right there absolutely listening to podcasts

  41. hey the technology's there man you know they have so many different ear pieces you know you

  42. could do whatever you want and get it done you know the ability to be hands-free for stuff is

  43. it's uh it's innovative you know what i mean it allows you to you know still be productive while

  44. you're still you know entertaining your secondary form of entertainment you know whether it be music

  45. podcasts whatever the case is you know so there you go well you hear that beats we need uh wrestling

  46. headgear with uh speakers in there right but we got a very special guest for you today we have uh

  47. wilfredo pimentel better known as fredo yep uh owner of drain surgeons plumbing yes sir jiu-jitsu

  48. practitioner out of 10th planet allentown yep travels the world fighting the best of the best

  49. in the world um while maintaining a business man you're just a real inspiration thank you i

  50. appreciate that man it's it's uh it's definitely a challenge you know what i mean um every day's

  51. a challenge you know you get up and you make decisions and i feel like the minute you get out

  52. of bed it's going to dictate how the rest of your day goes you know i mean every decision you make

  53. you know from that point on it's going to dictate how everything goes through you know i feel like

  54. that's pivotal you know what i mean it's going to be the catalyst for how you interpret your day and

  55. how you go about your day and you know the decisions you make in life you know what i mean

  56. because every everything is like a domino effect you know what i mean it's not only going to affect

  57. you it's going to affect everyone around you your loved ones your family you know what i mean so i

  58. feel like you know you get up every day and you decide to say hey this is what i'm gonna do this

  59. i'm about you know what i mean i want to carry out everything that i decide to do

  60. and implement it voraciously you know what i mean and be consistent you know that's what it's about

  61. you know yeah that's hard the consistency with everything i remember uh i was running on lunch

  62. and we had an hour so it was about a mile drive to the trail we'd run two three miles come back

  63. shower and my shoes had to be laced up by the time when a crop came and every day i remember

  64. like 59 minutes tying the shoes and that just to me represented that consistency of like okay my

  65. my tie is tied i was wearing ties every day back then yep but you're right it carries on it's it's

  66. it's about mindset so i'm sure absolutely mindset rules everything i feel like uh if you uh if you

  67. don't have a plan you know what i mean you're just going everything uh i mean spontaneity is

  68. good you know what i mean but i feel like you know regarding your life and and your everyday

  69. habits it has to be a plan you have to have a plan laid out and you have to implement it regardless

  70. of the obstacles you're facing that day you know what i mean so you have to be like okay this is

  71. what i intended on doing i'm gonna get it done you know what i mean regardless of the obstacles

  72. i'm facing whether a client's late or whether you have a car trouble you know what i mean like okay

  73. you know but this is not gonna stop me you know what i mean if i can get it done i'm gonna still

  74. get it done you know i mean you just gotta go it full force you know so definitely it's about

  75. taking breaks too it's funny we had gil thompson he was talking at his metaphor for that was going

  76. to the gym after work you know when your body's absolutely and you know that you set aside this

  77. is your regimen you know you can do 50 push-ups so when you quit at 35 you could just chalk up 35

  78. but like uh my coach used to say i'm not watching you like you can only cheat yourself

  79. absolutely did you do 10 yeah i did 10 if you did eight like what it's not him that that's

  80. gonna lack with it but yeah i i feel i completely agree with that what you do in the darkness is is

  81. what's ultimately gonna be your your consequence you know what i mean so like you know everything

  82. that you do and you implement when nobody's looking is gonna ultimately come down to your

  83. daily habits how you look how you feel you know what i mean so if you're if you're dragging you're

  84. in a bad mood or you're crabby it's like it's gonna say okay did you really get done what you

  85. wanted to set out to do you know what i mean so now it's questionable you know you're like okay

  86. did you did you complete the workout you wanted to do did you get those errands done that you

  87. want to do you know what i mean is your checklist fulfilled you know what i mean you set out to do

  88. whatever you're gonna do in that day if you didn't get it done it's going to reflect it in your

  89. attitude you know i mean your demeanor everything you do the way you carry yourself it's going to

  90. say hey listen i'm not 100 you know what i mean so i feel like that's important to really

  91. adapt to those changes in life you know what i mean and uh carry out what you intended on

  92. carrying out for that day in general you know you only get 24 hours in a day you know what i mean

  93. People don't realize that, you know, they just think it's another day and they just

  94. go about it nonchalantly.

  95. But God put this time out there for you to utilize, you know what I mean?

  96. How you utilize it 100% up to you, you know what I mean?

  97. If you want to just lay back, watch TV, whatever, that's fine, you know what I mean?

  98. But I feel like time is precious, you know what I mean?

  99. Like that day today is there today and gone tomorrow.

  100. You can't go back.

  101. You can't alter anything you've done already in the past, you know what I mean?

  102. So you have to, you know, approach life and all your goals vehemently, you know what I

  103. mean?

  104. And just say, hey, listen, this is what I'm set out to do.

  105. i have to carry it out you know regardless you know what i mean and um i feel like a lot of

  106. people fall short of that because they kind of and that go back to the mindset you know they

  107. kind of they kind of give themselves reason why it's okay not to do it it's okay not to

  108. you know carry on with that goal or that project you know what i mean they make excuses for

  109. themselves and honestly yeah it's okay it feels good at the moment like okay yeah i talk myself

  110. out of it i'm okay but in the end and this is where it comes from like long term you know

  111. short you know that instant gratification versus delay gratification like yeah instant gratification

  112. make you feel good. Like, okay, yeah, I gave myself a reason why I couldn't do this or I

  113. couldn't finish this project or I couldn't tackle that project. But then in the long run, it's going

  114. to kill you. You know what I mean? You're going to be like, hey, wow, I could have did that,

  115. but I made excuses for myself and that's why I didn't carry it out. And it's going to wear on

  116. you mentally. You know what I mean? I feel like that's a huge part of society today and realizing

  117. that, hey, okay, I set out to do this and you know what, I told myself it's okay that I didn't

  118. do it, you know, because, you know, I had a rough day or, you know, the dog did something to the

  119. house. You know what I mean? Or you, you know, you know, it's just those little variables that

  120. really can, can give a dynamic change to your day. You know what I mean? So if you don't,

  121. if you allow that stuff to really impact how you want to go about your day and how you want to

  122. continue your productivity, then you're going to fall short every time, you know, granted,

  123. nobody's perfect. You know what I mean? But I feel like as a person, as an individual,

  124. you have to conduct yourself in a way that's going to say, Hey, listen, you know, tomorrow's

  125. not a promise you know what i mean and i want a better life so i have to i have to just

  126. trudge through the tough times you know what i mean and carry out what you need to do to get it

  127. done yeah keep going yeah and i think it's important to say like there's a scale for it

  128. like i'm guilty of like i'll have an impossible task list let's say i need to get three done but

  129. i got eight written down i'll get seven written down and i'll be seven done and i'll be like oh

  130. man i didn't get that eight you know like you could beat yourself up for that so it's important

  131. like sometimes my body will just shut down absolutely i get that you know you you know you

  132. it's not like put it this way you know if you're making excuses you know what i mean if it's

  133. uh whatever you're whether you're scrolling on facebook you know and you say next thing you know

  134. it's you know you ever go it's 10 30 at night you want to be in bed by 11 you start scrolling

  135. and it's like next thing you know it's 11 30 you're like damn 12 it's like after midnight

  136. then you start getting anxiety like i'm not gonna sleep it's like you could have just made the

  137. decision to turn all your stuff off 20 minutes before bed absolutely and i'm big on that i feel

  138. like uh i have this thing where i where i save you stage your life and your daily habits you

  139. know what i mean so if you know you want to be in bed by 10 30 so then tell you what let's let's put

  140. that phone in the charger in another room far away where you're not distracted you know you

  141. have the temptation to pick it up and check it you know what i mean and go on social media you

  142. know because that stuff can can you know one thing about social media it's a great outlet you know

  143. especially if you run a business a great outlet to put yourself out there you know and disseminate

  144. content that's going to provide that's going to provide an advantage to your audience you know

  145. what i mean but if you're just doing it to scroll you know what i mean there's no purpose it's going

  146. to eat your time up you know i've this times i've been there and i'm like scrolling and you get so

  147. deep into like something in a page and you keep clicking and you're like damn like i just spent

  148. 45 minutes doing that and i don't get that time back you know what i mean so it's it's uh it's all

  149. about managing your time properly, you know, so that you can be more productive because what you

  150. do at night, you know what I mean? Whether you do it or not, it's going to reflect you until the

  151. next day. You know what I mean? And you can get up and be like, damn, I never took out that garbage

  152. and the garbage goes out today. You know what I mean? Like just the small things that, that'll

  153. wear on you throughout the day. And guess what? Now you're going to be distracted thinking about

  154. those things that you didn't get done. And now all those things that you neglected the night

  155. before, it's going to carry on to the next day. And it's like a domino effect. You know what I

  156. mean? So I feel like you have to make that time and, um, and just be, uh, just, just be kind of,

  157. you know, determined to get that done so that you can say, okay, listen, okay. Now you can,

  158. cause it's a good feeling. You get everything done. You're supposed to get done for that day.

  159. You know what I mean? You're, you're on point, you know, you're like, I want to be in by 730

  160. and it feels good. You can go to bed and you had that, you kind of eradicate that overwhelming

  161. feeling. You know what I mean? You're just like, okay, I can go to bed. This is done. This is

  162. done i emailed this client back i got these invoices out estimates out whatever the case

  163. is you know what i mean and you could like okay i was productive you know what i mean and that's

  164. that's where we fall short so i feel like you know productivity is huge you know i mean doesn't

  165. mean doesn't matter if you don't run a business it could be anything small you know what i mean

  166. it's energy too like not to cut you off when i as a creative entrepreneur yeah energy is super

  167. important so i could book time to say okay i'm gonna work on this logo but if my house is a mess

  168. make a million things up you know i have to go somewhere or you know i'd feel better if the

  169. laundry was running so let me just stop and run and get a thing of detergent so that can run while

  170. i do my work it happens but if you're tired if you're angry yep you know there's times where i'm

  171. like okay i need to manage my energy and my lifestyle just so that i can produce in at a

  172. high quality content every single day.

  173. Absolutely. Yeah. You want to be effective, you know?

  174. Yeah. You gotta be, that's the thing.

  175. Nobody knows like when I'm billing hourly, when you're at,

  176. to tell the people a little bit about what you do, you're a plumber.

  177. Yeah. I run my own plumbing business in Lehigh Valley.

  178. I started in 2016. So yeah, I'm going on eight years now,

  179. you know, running a business. It's, it's, it's been a rollercoaster.

  180. You know what I mean? There's a lot of advantages, a lot of disadvantages,

  181. but you know, there's a lot of stuff that people don't see behind the scenes that can really wear

  182. down on you. You know what I mean? And trying to meet deadlines, trying to communicate with

  183. customers, trying to schedule clients, you know what I mean? Trying to, you know, I work with a

  184. lot of realtors. So I have a lot of instances where, you know, they have a closing set up the

  185. next day and then he's, you know, certain documentation sent out by that period of time.

  186. So now like, okay, so now I'm home and I want to try and like have a balance, you know what I mean?

  187. Where I'm like devoting time to my family, but yes, I have to do what I need to do to make the

  188. business sustained you know what i mean so it's like it's like a juggle you know what i mean and

  189. that's that's the hard part about it because there's sometimes where you're like there's times

  190. i go home and i'll grab my work from like i don't even want to deal with this you know what i mean

  191. i'll just throw it into this so it's like you have to find that balance you can't just obviously you

  192. have a family to care for one two you have a business to run so you have to find a balance

  193. where you can be like okay listen let me just set aside that's where this is one of my habits i do

  194. i like let me set aside i'm gonna just i have a little timer i use it and i set aside let me say

  195. i'm gonna take 30 minutes to just devote my time to just communicating with clients you know what

  196. mean getting back to emails getting invoices out estimates done you know what i mean and you

  197. that time is just your time on on uninterrupted you know you put your phone aside you know i mean

  198. accept your work phone whatever you need to do and get it done you know what i mean it's just

  199. yeah it's a hard balance and a lot of people don't understand that you know like you run a

  200. business everything's glittering gold you know you just reap the benefits but it's it's very taxing

  201. and and a lot of times very stressful you know what i mean so yeah it's it's it adds up and you

  202. can't get uh you can't get mad if you don't get paid if you didn't send the invoice absolutely i

  203. mean i'm right now i'm sitting on a couple that i have to get out and you know what i mean it's

  204. like you have those good clients like hey i want to pay you you know what i mean and i'm like yeah

  205. they're reminding you yeah and you know in my field of work you know what i mean yeah i'm a

  206. plumber but the majority of my work is emergency calls you know what i mean so it's like i'm

  207. responding to people that need me right then and then you know i don't do a lot of new construction

  208. stuff like that where like big jobs are planned ahead of time so a lot of times i'm like you know

  209. my schedule is my schedule but i have to leave room for those variables like a customer that

  210. calls in with an emergency and i have to you know fit them in you know what i mean so like yeah

  211. i wish i could see i work a regular you know nine to five you know eight to four but i i typically

  212. don't you know what i mean it's like you know i have my schedule set out and then you get these

  213. wrenches thrown in there where you're like damn okay so now i gotta accommodate this customer

  214. who's in a in a tough spot you know what i mean and like you know you you value yourself as a

  215. person of integrity so like now they're relying on you to come bail them out of a tough situation

  216. You know what I mean? So it's like, you have to find that balance where like, okay, you know, you want to be there for them too as well. You know what I mean? Where you want to have a balance. So, so I'm very transparent with my customers. So a lot of times I get calls and like, Hey, I had this going on. I'm like, Hey, listen, I can honestly come out to you tonight, but I'm wondering if there's a possibility you can wait tomorrow. You know what I mean? If you can wait tomorrow, I'll be glad to, I'll be, I'll gladly accommodate you, give you a specific time I could be there. You know what I mean? And you know, a majority of time they're, they're very, very understanding, you know, cause I'm transparent. You know what I mean? I'm not lying to them. You know, I'm like, Hey, this is what I got going on. You know, I'm a little, I'm a little

  217. inundated with stuff that i got going on you know what i mean and i'll gladly come out there and

  218. help you but you know can you know is there a window where you're you're flexible you can say

  219. hey i'm gonna wait a little bit no problem and if it is an emergency then they appreciate it more

  220. that you you know you said look it's not really yeah the greatest time for me i i do that that's

  221. one thing i really grown on the last couple years just recently yeah i don't know if you saw the

  222. post my wife's car was stolen yes i saw that right out in front of here yeah it's crazy we we got it

  223. back the investigation is over so we can say it was found in phillipsburg new jersey but it's a

  224. scary feeling i had something due that saturday morning actually i was on my way to evan's gym

  225. shout out exalt jujitsu yes i'm on my way to train and i get a call halfway i can't find my car i was

  226. like we parked it right out front but i didn't remember seeing it it's a gut-wrenching feeling

  227. it sucks by monday it's like look i didn't get a chance to work on your stuff saturday

  228. thank god everybody's understanding because at the end of the day they're the client they could

  229. be like of course so what the car you know what i mean like yep she's grown she could like i don't

  230. know yeah they'll be like hey whatever like they need their stuff done you know what i mean they're

  231. like i need this done you know what i mean and that's what's good like i mean honestly like

  232. i feel like you you know when you run a business where regardless of what you you cater to a

  233. certain demographic you know what i mean so like that demographic is going to be intelligent you

  234. know they're going to know you what you got going on and they're going to be understanding and if

  235. they're not understanding then okay whatever you have to you know adjust your circumstances

  236. according to what they need see met you know what i mean so it's like you know that's the biggest

  237. part about it you know that's why i'm big on being transparent you know i'm not here making excuses

  238. or telling lies you know what i mean or you know i'm just like listen yeah i was out all day i'm

  239. tired you know i mean if you okay we're waiting i would like to get some rest and i can help you

  240. out tomorrow you know i mean just being transparent people respect that you know i mean just that

  241. level of honesty you know what i mean because then it goes back to being a person of integrity

  242. you know what i mean and they could be like okay you know what he was transparent he was honest you

  243. know what i mean and you know you know we'll work with him so that we can we can have our needs met

  244. you know what i mean so and that's so that's what's huge and i feel like that and in your case

  245. too with that they should understand those variables like yeah you gotta you know technically

  246. it's your wife's car it's a woman in distress you know what i mean as a man you know what i mean

  247. you're obligated you know i hate to say that word obligated but you're obligated to be there for her

  248. and say hey listen i'm here with you let's figure it out together you know what i mean it's not her

  249. problem now it's your problem together collectively you know what i mean so like i feel like it's

  250. important that you know you have a household to maintain you have to deliver as a man you know

  251. because that's that's your given right you know what i mean and and and i say it's a right because

  252. it is a right it's a privilege it's opportunity you know what i mean it's like do you know

  253. to just be like hey listen you know my boyfriend my husband whatever delivered you know when i was

  254. in a time of need you know what i mean didn't leave me in the you know in the out in the cold

  255. you know what i mean so you know that stuff's important too you know what i mean it goes back

  256. to like you know doing everything right you know i gotta ask you yeah i agree 100 i gotta ask

  257. did you you were training and i met you in 2016 correct and before we worked on the branding for

  258. drain surgeons you mentioned you were cage fighting or you were training then so did you do

  259. that before you got into business how long you've been training so technically i was training back

  260. in 2007 um i joined uh shout out to rad pack um you know nicholas manston you know he runs

  261. rad pack in palmerton um i was big in jujitsu i was addicted to it i said i love this stuff you

  262. know what i mean i love training i love the discipline so i joined rad pack and um literally

  263. trained with them for about a year and change you know i got my blue belt in like six months you

  264. know what i mean and um you know train with them i was cage fighting like crazy i was fighting

  265. at Atlantic City at the casinos I was fighting in Jersey um and then I have kids you know what

  266. I mean I was like shit like I gotta I gotta prioritize you know what I mean so I tried to

  267. manage both but it was impossible you know what I mean like as actively fighting you you need to

  268. put a lot of time in the gym you know what I mean if you're an active cage fighter anybody any shout

  269. out to my cage fighters out there if anybody knows you're putting at least 30 hours a week in the gym

  270. between you know your sparring your jujitsu your conditioning you know what I mean I trained with

  271. american top team back in the day it was mandatory we did yoga you know what i mean so like stuff

  272. like that you know what i mean like you had to do all the things that were required of you as a

  273. fighter because you represented that school and that team you know what i mean so it's not like

  274. hey let me just do this for clout i want to be like cool i'm kidding no it was it was a it was

  275. a it was a broader picture you know what i mean so you have to really deliver on all aspects so

  276. that hey okay now you have your now you delivered now guess what now you got all these awesome

  277. coaches in your team backing you up you know as you carry on to do what you love you know what

  278. I mean, so it's a hard bounce.

  279. So I had to give that up.

  280. You know what I mean?

  281. So 2009, I said, I'm done, you know, and I didn't pick it back up till 2019.

  282. I joined 10 Planet Allentown when they were not even open yet.

  283. They were announcing a new location in Allentown.

  284. And I reached out to John Blank, who's our coach.

  285. He's a black belt, young guy, you know, and I reached out to him.

  286. I said, hey, I'm looking to join you guys.

  287. You know what I mean?

  288. He's like, yeah, we're not open yet, but we have a special going on.

  289. Yada, yada, yada.

  290. So I signed up.

  291. I said, I'm in.

  292. I don't care, you know, and joined them in 2019.

  293. and I've been with them now until then, you know what I mean?

  294. And now I'm a brown belt, you know, in the 10 Planet system

  295. under John Thor Blank and Zach Maslany of 10 Planet Bethlehem.

  296. They're both my different camps, you know what I mean?

  297. We have two locations.

  298. Shout out to 10 Planet Bethlehem, 10 Planet Allentown.

  299. We have a great camp, great team, man.

  300. I feel like everybody's, it's like a family, you know what I mean?

  301. Like there's, you know, we just all look out for each other,

  302. you know what I mean?

  303. We're always helping each other get ready for stuff,

  304. whether it's cage fighting, whether it's jiu-jitsu tournaments,

  305. you know, whatever the case is.

  306. Everybody's there for each other and they help to make sure that

  307. not only are we ready physically but mentally too as well you know what i mean because that's the

  308. biggest part of that you know what i mean you go out there you put your life on the line whether

  309. you're cage riding you're competing in jujitsu it's a lot of it's it's a mental battle on top

  310. of the physical you know you're putting you're beating your body up every day you know what i

  311. mean so um and it's it's hard to uh how do you call it like knowing the mentality and stuff that's

  312. why i didn't compete this year yeah you know um there was a couple guys from exalt where they

  313. Yeah. So when you were out there, it's it's it was like Thursday on a Saturday.

  314. They're competing. No, you know, besides just regular training, it's like, all right.

  315. You know, you you could do that. But you also like you said, you know, I have a family I have.

  316. I mean, I could lose eyesight. You know, you're running that risk whenever you're literally fighting someone.

  317. So it's like, you know, part of me is like I saw the clip.

  318. It was funny when I was thinking of making a decision for a resolution at the dinner we do.

  319. um i saw the clip where rocky's like you see that that ain't us no more exactly we can't do that

  320. like we used to exactly it's like oh you gotta gotta it's a lot different training after 15 20

  321. years it really is it really is and it's like um not only that too but like factoring your lifestyle

  322. your age you know what i mean it's like you know you know realistically i'm 43 i don't have to do

  323. this you know what i mean and i compete a lot you know what i mean i travel a lot i've been to over

  324. probably 15 states you know what i mean and competed in you know everywhere from up and

  325. down the west coast to the east coast whatever that is midwest you know and um but it takes a

  326. it takes a certain mindset you know what i mean because yeah it's nerve-wracking i mean you spend

  327. how much money traveling between flight to hotel you know signing up for the for the to fight and

  328. compete it's a lot of a lot of stuff on the line so now yeah exactly dieting getting yourself your

  329. conditioning ready so it's like okay so now you you've invested all this time all this money

  330. for a fricking six minute match. You know what I mean? So now you're like, damn, I, okay, shit.

  331. You know what I mean? Like, you know what I mean? Like you got to really go ahead and give it 110%,

  332. you know what I mean? So, um, I, I enjoy that pressure. You know what I mean? I feel like,

  333. you know, I, you know, I travel out there with my family. I'm like, okay, I'm here. I'm here

  334. to compete, you know? And I don't ever say, oh, you know, I'll do my best. No, I'm going to give

  335. it 110%. You know what I mean? In my head, I try to approach every match, like, you know, when I

  336. win, I try to talk into existence, you know what I mean? So yeah, there's losses too, but like,

  337. if you have that mindset it's going to help you to approach that match effectively you know what

  338. i mean because at the end of the day you don't know this other person from a hole in the wall

  339. you know what i mean and we're in a sport where they you can easily get severely hurt you know

  340. what i mean i've seen people get carried out on stretchers ambulances you know what i mean there's

  341. guys that can't walk for six months so it's like it's a very high risk but i try i i'm cognizant

  342. of the risk i must say you know what i mean but at the same sense i'm not letting that risk hinder

  343. me from my ability you know i mean i approach everything with knowing what i'm capable of you

  344. know what i mean i know i train with a great team and um you know all those guys i train with in the

  345. room are just animals you know what i mean so i go in there with that mindset saying hey you know

  346. what i train with the best in the game i don't care let's let's go let's go to war you know what

  347. i mean my age doesn't have an effect on it you know and that's the thing about me too like

  348. everybody uses their age as a limitation but honestly it's a number let's be realistic you

  349. know what i mean it's a number you know what i mean like for me to say oh i'm 43 i shouldn't

  350. be doing this stuff you know what i mean i'm competing against guys in their 20s you know

  351. what i mean and sometimes i can be competing against guys my age but it's like at the end

  352. of the day it's like for what like i'm honestly i know what i'm capable of you know what i mean

  353. i put all that work behind the scenes to come out here and hold back you know what i mean because

  354. i'm worried about getting hurt or i'm thinking like oh i shouldn't be doing this at my age no

  355. and at the end of the day i'm going in there like it's like to me i approach every match like it's

  356. another another session in in in the grappling room you know i mean we're retraining you know

  357. right right right it's just another man you know you know you prepared for the match before you

  358. get to the match but it's funny i had to ask you because i was talking with evan about this yeah

  359. do you still get i don't want to call them butterflies but you know like when the adrenaline's

  360. cooking do you still feel that pre-match that's a good question honestly because i felt like in the

  361. last year and a half i don't get that anymore like i feel like i've competed and i i tally

  362. the i probably compete i've had over 150 matches already in my life you know what i mean so like

  363. there's gonna come a point in time where you're like okay it's another match whatever you know

  364. what i mean so like yeah i'm grateful for that opportunity to be like hey i'm cool i'm not

  365. nervous you know what i mean i feel great my cardio is good i'm i'm healthy you know praise

  366. god i'm healthy i don't have no ailments and i'm gonna go on there and just give it 110 you know

  367. and be smart at this at the same note you know i mean i'm gonna do no high risk dumb stuff but

  368. i'm gonna go on there and implement my game you know what i mean so um yeah it's just the

  369. butterflies are still there but for me it's there because it's there on an intelligent mindset you

  370. know what i mean like yeah be smart it's helping you out it's not be smart i'm not holding back

  371. not paralyzing me like but in the same sense it's like okay you know what you're here to do you know

  372. you train in the room with a bunch of animals a bunch of killers you know what i mean we got a

  373. lot of high level guys at our camp at 10 planet you know what i mean at both locations so every

  374. time i go in there and compete the minute i step on that man i'm like i train with the best i'm

  375. ready let's go you know what i mean if i lose because this guy was better than me it's not

  376. because i held back and said oh i was seeing you know what i mean so it's like you got to really

  377. go in there with that mindset and give it 110 otherwise you know what i mean your mind can

  378. kill you before you even before he kills you you understand what i'm saying like you you have to be

  379. like cognizant and ready and you have to trust i always tell i always tell my my teammates i was

  380. there trust your jujitsu you know what i mean trust what you work on in the room trust what

  381. you do when nobody's looking you know what i mean and implement that you know what i mean be the

  382. aggressor that was that was how i started when i first started i was like oh i'm gonna just go

  383. for what he's doing and react no you know what i mean because then then they're gonna think they

  384. have the upper hand because now you're letting them approach you now you let them get you know

  385. So now you have to be the aggressor and say, okay, you're here.

  386. You signed up to compete with me.

  387. Let's go.

  388. You're going to be the aggressor.

  389. You're going to tie up.

  390. Make them feel uncomfortable.

  391. Let them feel your strength.

  392. Let them know that you're pushing forward.

  393. You know what I mean?

  394. So it's like that helps a lot with trying to go in there and get the job done.

  395. You know what I mean?

  396. Like, yeah, you can't think about the other stuff, you know, getting hurt.

  397. You know, that stuff's inevitable.

  398. You know what I mean?

  399. I've been hurt on matches.

  400. You know what I mean?

  401. I've been helped off the mat.

  402. You know, my teammates carry me out.

  403. You know what I mean?

  404. That was back in the day.

  405. But I feel like the more I compete, the more mature I get.

  406. You know what I'm saying?

  407. Like, I feel like I'm more smarter about how I do things.

  408. You know what I mean?

  409. I don't have an ego.

  410. You know what I mean?

  411. I know if I'm in a match and it's a compromised position where I can potentially get hurt,

  412. you know what I mean?

  413. I'll tap out.

  414. You know what I mean?

  415. I have no pride at all.

  416. You know what I mean?

  417. The guy was just better than me.

  418. He was just more smarter at getting to that position and putting me in a vulnerable position

  419. where I'm like, damn, I'm done.

  420. You know what I mean?

  421. I'm cooked.

  422. You know what I mean?

  423. I got to tap out.

  424. You know what I mean?

  425. So you have to go in there with that mindset.

  426. as i compete more and more it's not as bad as as when i first started you know what i mean

  427. and going through it you know what i mean so it helps out a lot that's why i always tell my

  428. teammates like on my lower belt guys i'm a brown belt in jujitsu and i always tell my lower belts

  429. my white belts my blue belts you know what i mean i say listen okay you went out there you lost you

  430. get your ass kicked go back out there again you know i mean dust it off go back out there because

  431. that's how i did it you know what i mean i was i was a blue belt competing at an expert division

  432. you know what i mean getting my ass mopped you know what i mean getting tapped out in a minute

  433. you know i mean then it started it was like a period where i'm like okay now i'm getting tapped

  434. out quick okay now i'm losing but on points okay okay i'm not getting finished okay so now we're

  435. on a point where i'm like i'm getting better now i'm like okay now i'm winning on points

  436. and now i'm starting to finish these guys you know what i mean at blue and purple you know

  437. what i mean so it's like you know just that progression it motivates me to know that okay

  438. hey listen i'm getting better you know what i mean my progression is there i'm consistently

  439. training i'm not just training to get ready for a fight that's the thing a lot about a lot of

  440. people they they only train when they are getting ready for something but you got to be consistently

  441. training all the time you know i mean it doesn't matter and i always tell people join jujitsu you

  442. don't you don't have to compete there's no nothing saying you have to compete but just join it just

  443. to have that discipline where you you're picking up a self-defense you know what i mean and i

  444. always tell people you don't have to compete that's not necessary at all a competition is a

  445. way to challenge yourself if you wanted to you know what i mean but other than that you know

  446. just do i hate to say the bare minimum but do the bare minimum you know i mean you want to come up

  447. sign up train yeah and teach yourself you know it's better than nothing we talk about a lot that

  448. a lot on the the podcast yeah but i wanted to bring it full circle like the reason why i asked

  449. if you train before business people don't understand what training martial arts or even

  450. if you're not competing and you're just competing with yourself yeah it translates over into other

  451. areas of your life that discipline you know what i mean like telling yourself you're gonna send that

  452. invoice. They say like a body in motion stays in motion. So like that happens with your mind as

  453. well too. It's a lot. If I say I'm going to, there's two ways I could go about it. I could

  454. scroll Instagram for half an hour and then send the invoice or I could send the invoice and then

  455. scroll Instagram. One of them, I'm going to be completely dead. I'm going to be, I've sent stuff

  456. where it's like, you know, I'm billing them for another client's work. Like it's the right price,

  457. but the description is exactly and it's like you're supposed to uh you're supposed to be like

  458. pivotal in business everything's supposed to tie up i'm like don't you understand when people like

  459. even having podcast guests when i have them over to my house yep if it's all out of whack they

  460. think i don't know it's just crazy how one thing goes to another how training martial arts can help

  461. you keep your house clean and it's true it honestly you hit it on right in the nose and it goes back

  462. to the word discipline you know what i mean like people that's the one and i always tell people

  463. this like right what's the less i mean unbiasedly the two most things people want in life is to

  464. look great and make good money you know what i mean and i feel like in order to look great you

  465. have to have the discipline to want to do that you know what i mean and i feel like that's the

  466. one thing that's absolutely attainable you know what i mean like making money is hard you got to

  467. go out there you got to hustle you got to sell your product whatever you're doing you know me

  468. So it's a constant battle.

  469. But as far as like looking good and feeling good, that requires a lot of discipline.

  470. You know what I mean?

  471. And discipline is something you attain.

  472. It's a habit.

  473. You know what I mean?

  474. And I feel like I always tell people this.

  475. Like if you have the discipline to do that, do anything in life, then you're going to be successful at everything you touch.

  476. You know what I mean?

  477. So it's like, okay, I want to do this.

  478. I want to take on this project.

  479. I want to learn a new language or whatever the case is.

  480. You know what I mean?

  481. Or, you know, you want to quit bad habits.

  482. You know, somebody wants to quit smoking.

  483. Okay, do you have the discipline to really carry that on?

  484. You know what I mean?

  485. and that's the that's the thing is like you know and that's it goes back to what i was saying

  486. before about instant gratification delay gratification like everybody wants everything

  487. right now right now right now yeah they want to take up let's go like i want everything i want

  488. it to magically happen and boom no you're gonna suffer you know what i mean like when i started

  489. my business i was working out of a fucking 2004 honda accord you know what i mean like going to

  490. service calls and loading my tools up you know i mean before i even had my truck like you know i

  491. understand that part you know what i mean and i always felt like i had to explain to these people

  492. Like, I'm sorry I'm in a car, I'm not in a work truck, you know what I mean?

  493. And they respected my hustle.

  494. I was transparent, you know what I mean?

  495. But, like, you have to have that discipline regardless of the obstacles to want to carry things out, you know what I mean?

  496. Whether it's a career you want to attain, you know what I mean?

  497. Or a certain weight you want to lose, you know what I mean?

  498. Or in a certain, like, you know, look you desire to attire, you know what I mean?

  499. So, but, yeah, discipline goes a long way.

  500. You have to have discipline.

  501. otherwise you know you're gonna fall short every time you know for sure even um i'm thinking back

  502. to making sure all the cameras are charged and uh yeah i mean there's times where i'm laying in bed

  503. oh shit the cameras aren't on yeah i gotta go and then i'll go and check and maybe they are

  504. yeah and they were charging but if i didn't check and they weren't now you have your you're traveling

  505. the world internationally i know you talked about the 50 states but i see you in the tropics and

  506. some of these competitions that you do so those are other benefits you've pulled from it yeah but

  507. you took time out of your schedule to be here can you imagine if the camera that's on you just

  508. wasn't working so now we gotta shift it and now we gotta have no like they can't see the scene like

  509. all of it is everything down to the reels that we're gonna promote for the episode it's all

  510. uh like you said consistency and i uh i fell off recently with the consistency i'm set for the next

  511. like i have a guess like every week till february yeah but um i felt bad and this isn't even what i

  512. do to make money this is just a hobby but my level of discipline translates into my hobbies like if i

  513. can do it a hundred percent it's like okay let me just know where i'm at yeah so keeping healthy

  514. keeping the energy to be able to create to give yourself a hundred percent we talked with gil

  515. thompson you got to watch the two-year anniversary episode i put out yeah um he's talking about how

  516. he gets ready in the morning and meditates just so that he's not grumpy to other people yeah

  517. So it's like when you, yeah, when somebody has no motivation, has no will, I'm going to kind of judge and think, okay, that's probably why you're depressed.

  518. You know, like it's really hard to be checking lists off every day and be depressed.

  519. and this is no trust me like when you go through depression it's really hard to check or do those

  520. lists but those little incremental things those little things that make you happy and turn into

  521. the upward spiral like it's it's what you have to do you know it's not going to happen it's not

  522. going to just happen the only money that's going to come without doing anything is when i get

  523. parking for street cleaning exactly yeah you know i get fined for something and now i have to they

  524. it's funny they wrote repeat offender yeah you get an increased ticket when you're a repeat offender

  525. yeah but yeah like i i 100 agree with you like it's funny because you say about the

  526. the parking authority and like you know you live in allentown i live in allentown they're just

  527. relentless with like just looking for ways to ticket people i'm like we live in the in the

  528. suburbs you know what i mean we're not in the city you know what i mean like where there's a

  529. meter or something you know i mean it's just annoying dealing with that kind of kind of crap

  530. you know what i mean but you know you have to adapt you know what i mean so but you know what

  531. back to the discipline the only reason why i got it was because i i don't know if i slept in half

  532. an hour or like you know we have a whole morning regimen especially when we were down to one car

  533. where people have to be in different sides of the town somebody has to be early but now you have

  534. okay on top of that i slept in 20 minutes now this person is late now the car is not moved by

  535. 8 a.m so now i got a 50 ticket it's like you can't you know it's i'm like oh i don't even get

  536. mad when i get the ticket i'm like i didn't have my laces tied by 1 p.m exactly listen it's funny

  537. you say that because i always say it's like i would what i say about that is that that's a

  538. consequence of your daily habits you know what i mean the decisions you make you know what i mean

  539. so like people are always like oh do you panic or worry about making a certain amount of money i'm

  540. like no i don't worry about that stuff you know what i mean i feel like the work i put out there

  541. and being a person of integrity you know what i mean the money that i make is a consequence of me

  542. being that that character you know i mean being able to provide good service being able to be

  543. transparent being able to be a person of integrity that people can rely on you know what i mean

  544. and um that's why i would say that like that it goes back to what you're saying like yeah you

  545. wanted to sleep in a little 20 30 minutes you know even now look how it's a domino effect you

  546. know what i mean like i said before it's a domino effect of like that one decision you made to like

  547. sleep in now look what it did you know what i mean now now you got somebody late for work who

  548. potentially lose their job you never know you know what i mean you got a pay a ticket you know

  549. what i mean now you're like you know it's just like it's it's just uh it's just a ripple effect

  550. of things that can affect you because you wanted to be selfish and be like oh i want to sleep in

  551. you know what i mean so it's like sometimes we got to let go of what we want and think about

  552. the broader picture and like okay let me get up and be you know more effective you know that's it

  553. and i'm big on that too even like my morning routine man i don't sleep in you know if i know

  554. i gotta be on a job by like nine i'm up at like 7 30 i'd rather just get up you know and i had

  555. this routine where i like i'll get up i don't touch my phone i touch my phone to take it off

  556. the charger but i don't check it i go i you know make a coffee and i don't drink it till like 30

  557. minutes after i'm up you know what i mean not right away and yeah i read about that yeah i go

  558. it's a big thing they say that jocko willing said that too as well you know what i mean like he's

  559. like you know doesn't let your cortisol balance exactly yeah so when you get up in the morning

  560. don't don't drink coffee right away don't let that be your stimulant you know what i mean like

  561. you need to just do what you got to do set it up hit your machine whatever and and wait about 30

  562. to 60 minutes before you drink it so in that time i'm i'm either watching a youtube video for

  563. something that's going to benefit me whether it's spiritual whether it's motivational you know what

  564. i mean i'll go outside and you know yeah i have my own home gym but i have pull-up bars outside

  565. my backyard and i'll just do like you know pull-ups and just you know play with my dogs you

  566. know and just you know divest myself from the distractions of a phone or social media or

  567. client texting you know because i feel like that the morning is so critical and people don't

  568. understand that you know what i mean like it can really dictate your mood and how you conduct

  569. yourself the rest of the day so like the entire day if you pick up your phone immediately right

  570. when you wake up you know what i mean you're like checking your notifications you know what you're

  571. gonna be sidetracked you know what i mean you're not gonna do everything you set out to do you

  572. know what i mean i'd rather have that time to just be like okay i'm up early you know i'm gonna just

  573. do what i gotta do get my truck ready you know start it up warm it up you know what i mean

  574. just come from a client just clean the car out just take the trash out of the car exactly the

  575. little habits you could do that are gonna make everything flow better for your day you know

  576. what i mean and then once you get that done okay go ahead go hit the coffee machine drink your

  577. coffee and sip it up you know what i mean but i feel like that's that's critical you know what

  578. i mean because they you know the way you wake up and the way you carry on your mornings and it

  579. really dictate the way the rest of your day goes you know what i mean so and it's it's funny because

  580. like lately i've been trying to work out in the morning you know what i mean and just you know

  581. trying like you know get that discipline like okay you know what let's go get up you know two

  582. hours early i'll go work out get a good workout and then i'll drink coffee you know what i mean

  583. and go about my day and it really does have an impact on your day it really does it's mood

  584. altering you know what i mean like okay i felt productive i got up i worked out you could feel

  585. the endorphins when you're drinking coffee i used to run a lot in the morning and i remember you

  586. were big on running you see yeah but i mean if it was 5 30 in the morning and snowing out i was

  587. still out i would just have hat and gloves there was time i would be out in a t-shirt with hat and

  588. gloves at like 26 degrees because i said i was going to run and it's like people like were you

  589. cold well fuck yeah it's 26 degrees but i'm not thinking about that the feeling of i did it anyway

  590. and i have to go back and look maybe i'll have time to throw it up but i had a snapchat where

  591. they used to be able to show you the temperature yes exactly before you could cap cut and edit all

  592. your stuff so people used to like uh snapchat was cool because you couldn't see comments so people

  593. had to reply yeah and people would be like yo you're crazy especially my dudes from california

  594. oh of course yeah the west coast what are you doing out there like what are you doing is that

  595. snow yeah and so um i realize i'm self-aware enough to realize i go through cycles so i can't

  596. always be on like right now is around when i would compete and for whatever reason 15 years later i

  597. get like right around october i'm just kind of on sometimes a little bit in the summer you know i

  598. might be a little slower so i'll work from 5 to 8 a.m on client projects if i'm alert and i'm awake

  599. yeah if i can't you know if i get up at five even if i and i count my sleep but even if i had

  600. decent sleep, but my body's telling me like, don't do it. And then I realized, okay, for two weeks,

  601. I couldn't do it. I won't even schedule it in the morning anymore. Like I don't have to be as

  602. hardcore. Cause I mean, it's, there really is a thing as being too disciplined. You can go and

  603. look at somebody and say they have this success because they have every 15 minutes of their

  604. calendar scheduled out and that's great. But if they're not taking that time to rest, there's,

  605. you know, they better be taking three, four vacations in that time or investing in massage

  606. or stretch therapy, have something. I mean, when I don't get to practice, I feel different. I feel

  607. more like agitated, less like, uh, I don't know. It's weird. No, I a hundred percent agree with

  608. you. Like even times like, uh, there'll be times where I can't train cause I'm working so much.

  609. And like, you know, I don't train for like a week, you know, which is a lot for me. I always

  610. train all the time and i'm like and i feel that my mood is just you know i'm just like really

  611. sullen you know what i mean i'm real reticent you know what i mean and you know i'm not really

  612. you know in tune with the daily habits i like to to do and you know accomplish you know what i mean

  613. so i get that whole like mentality we're like okay so then i know i need to get my ass back in there

  614. and work you know what i mean because it's gonna alter your mood at the end of the day you know

  615. what i mean so you know and it helps with the mental health you know i mean there's a lot of

  616. people dealing with mental health i personally battle with depression you know what i mean

  617. and um jujitsu helps me with that you know what i mean so it's like it's a it's my outlet you

  618. know what i mean so it's like i hear a lot of people say that honestly like i was diagnosed

  619. with pdd with persistent depressive disorder so it's like high functioning depression you know

  620. what i mean and um there'll be times i'll get in these funks and i can't even call why i there's

  621. no explanation i'm just like in a funk you know what i mean and i'm like i'm just battling but

  622. i'm like okay i don't know and i'm like i don't want to train i don't want to work out whatever

  623. i don't even care about eating clean nothing like that you know what i mean so it's like i gotta i

  624. gotta fight that mental battle to get out of that rut and like oh no get your ass in the gym or go

  625. train you know what i mean and get yourself out of that funk you know what i mean i feel like

  626. jujitsu helped me so much with that you know what i mean like it's like you know there was a point

  627. in my life where i was like 240 pounds you know i'm just constantly drinking beer not caring about

  628. you know what i was putting in my body you know what i mean and i'm like this is not me man you

  629. know what i mean like it's like i gotta i gotta do something now because it's gonna be too late

  630. you know what i mean and i'm like i'm 43 and i got friends that are like 35 40 years old just

  631. dying from heart attacks just because they make you know poor decisions every day you know that

  632. was the scariest for me that's that that is scary peace and a friend at like 35 and you know what

  633. was crazy he had just said i'm gonna get everything together he had quit smoking started eating

  634. healthy and like that year that was it and so it's like bro i'm getting chills now thinking about it

  635. somebody i wrestled with too so you're like we were all at that same prime in our teens you know

  636. we were all competing at a high level so yeah yeah i mean the granted there's always going to

  637. be you know i make choices that i think will affect me in terms of longevity or things like

  638. that yeah but you know you you can't like who knows you could smoke and get hit by a car you

  639. you could i mean you can get hit by a car even if you don't smoke that's not a great

  640. metaphor but you know you you don't know like tomorrow's not promised yeah like we the the

  641. worst injury i ever had was in volleyball after after wrestling my shoulder it's funny you say

  642. that because like i remember i was playing a volleyball game right and i went to i was in

  643. the front of the net i went to block a spike and the ball pushed my shoulder all the way back and

  644. i tell you what that that hindered me for like a good year my shoulder was not the same you know

  645. what i mean i'm like it's just dumb like and you know me i'm a person of extreme sports you know

  646. what i mean everybody always you know cracks the jokes like i'm hispanic but i'm like a white boy

  647. x games mode you know i always snowboard you know motocross whatever the case is and i'm like yeah

  648. for real like and shout out to my boys jeff and keith i always go where it's funny because we're

  649. like the only minorities in the mountain we go to like the the craziest peaks with the highest

  650. elevations and we're like the only brown boys up there like you know hit these expert trails you

  651. know what i mean but it's funny because like it's always like that you always get injured doing the

  652. dumbest shit you know what i mean like it's just dumb you know what i mean like i blocked the shot

  653. on volleyball and now i have this shoulder impingement that's that's hindering me for like

  654. a good year you know what i mean it's like you never know what's gonna happen i think i was doing

  655. a somersault uh or not a summer i was just rolling like i wasn't i wasn't yeah rolling with someone

  656. i was just being silly myself rolling as a warm-up yeah and i had like they're like you got calcific

  657. tendinitis now it was probably from bad shoulder position just from wrestling and i like messed it

  658. up so i don't know if that's what it was but you know you'd think going live is when you get all

  659. your crazy injuries it never is like i swear to god it's like i'm drilling i'm drilling and

  660. somebody was learning something and just had it wrong and so that's why i mean but that'll teach

  661. you that you can't change the stuff that happens like you have to have a certain bit of adaptability

  662. yeah and that's what i had to learn because if i didn't run one day it was bad yeah and like i get

  663. it for some people like uh shout out to my people in recovery you know there's some people we were

  664. talking about this the other day but they don't litter because that is one step closer to taking

  665. them back to the person that uses absolutely yeah so they think i'm gonna end up it's triggering you

  666. know what i mean that's what you did they they're conscious and that's huge because if you're

  667. conscious of the points that of things in life that will trigger you you do everything you can

  668. to eradicate or even mitigate the probability of that happening you know what i mean so like that's

  669. huge you know what i mean like okay it could be something small as littering but like damn you

  670. know what i mean like now i'm careless or reckless now what is that this is going to transfer onto

  671. down the stream you know what i mean so it's like that's what that's what i'm saying every decision

  672. you make every thought you have your thought process is gonna it's gonna have a domino effect

  673. You know what I mean? So you got to be cognizant of that. You know what I mean? And conduct yourself in a way that's going to benefit you and everyone else around you. Because it's not always about you. You know what I mean? People misunderstand that. They're like, oh, you know, I'm not doing this and I feel like I'm bummed out. No. How about you conduct yourself unselfishly, unbiased? You know what I mean? You think about what you can do. You know what I mean? If you want to go out there and tackle a career or get a degree, damn, let's think how that's going to affect your mom or your dad.

  674. like damn okay my my i'm proud of my kid they did this or whatever the case is you know what i mean

  675. so now they're gonna carry themselves in the same manner so like i feel like your energy can be

  676. contagious you know what i mean so you could be like damn like they're out here doing this you

  677. know what i mean so like i'm feeling that like let me go do this you know what i mean like

  678. regardless of how old your parents are but they're gonna feel more motivated because hey

  679. listen my kid did this and they accomplished this so now like i feel motivated let me go to the gym

  680. let me start caring about my health stuff like that you know what i mean so i feel like that's

  681. always i always say that word domino effect because you never know like that one decision you make

  682. can affect people down the line you know what i mean so like i try to be a good influence you

  683. know my kids and and be like hey you know my dad is doing this you know he don't have to do this

  684. you know he's 43 you just sit home and watch netflix and do nothing but at the end of the

  685. day man it's it's hard for me to do that you know what i mean and don't get me wrong i have a balance

  686. where i relax and rest but like yeah no but on the same note i can't i can't fathom myself

  687. committing to a show and binge watching like i see all these posts on facebook oh i need a new

  688. show to binge watch i'm like damn like i think of better things i could do with my time you know

  689. what i mean like i work on a second language or develop another craft you know i mean if you want

  690. to learn how to play guitar or whatever something that's going to benefit you that's that's that's

  691. outside of the realm of what everybody else is doing like what do you want to be in a conversation

  692. like oh yeah we all saw this show and this show you know what i mean like oh this this scene was

  693. great but like okay what is that getting you is there any benefit to that decision you made

  694. like game a game of thrones so there there is a benefit of being up on pop culture yeah there is

  695. even if it's small but for me it's more like like people know i played video games yeah i haven't

  696. like i've dabbled but i really haven't had the time to sit there and play for two three hours

  697. probably since summer maybe like early summer um and i know because it tells you how long you played

  698. And I just, whenever I have that one other thing to do, or I think like there's stuff on my to-do list to do when I'm done with my to-dos, just in case my house is in order and all my clients are paid and everything's in follow-up, then I can start working on my podcast or my social strategy.

  699. you know there's things to do so I'll force myself to play games but I'm never like it's been so long

  700. since I'm like I'm looking so for me I remember being like what's the next game I'm gonna play

  701. how am I gonna fill my time I you know I have four hours a night you know what got me out of that was

  702. editing and making content for the games and I'm like well I don't want to play the game I just

  703. want to get the clips to edit while my friends were online playing games i'm there editing

  704. pissing them off playing the same thing over so i was like all right it just kind of i don't want

  705. to say i grew out of it because it does add to my creativity yeah and anything like uh like if i'm

  706. going to watch something it's going to be marvel or game of thrones it's got to be at the epitome

  707. of my industry absolutely like hey can i get a french new wave modern soap opera because they're

  708. like down that rabbit hole of black and white noir yep no i mean to each his own like yeah if you find

  709. community in discussing that with people like it used to be if you were into something quote

  710. unquote weird you were kind of isolated you know what i mean now you can play dungeons and dragons

  711. with somebody in albany and somebody else in costa rica so it's like you ever since twitter

  712. so you can find other people who have the same interests as you and just being able to move

  713. through society and have equity like even having a podcast people are like if people see this what

  714. we're doing right here and they don't listen to any of the conversation they don't know what it's

  715. about they're just like it looks official yeah you know what i mean when they dig down and they're

  716. like okay it's all set up so that everything else is blanked out but me and you we don't even notice

  717. the lights yep it's like oh okay i can see why he's going in that direction like but people just

  718. see hey it happened to me today i was walking out of walgreens hey the podcast like people just see

  719. okay you have something that everybody else has and yours looks good or whatever it is or there's

  720. people that say like oh why is he on the sure and he's on the the um sm58 you know like there's

  721. always going to be people as i got into threads and you know this anybody who trains in martial

  722. arts knows like there really is no best you know and what do you do like does gordon ryan just say

  723. i'm done now yeah exactly training yeah that's it that's that's the end or like you know what i mean

  724. you go as long as your body can take absolutely 100 agree with you on that one definitely but

  725. that's the that's the encompassing that's the feeling i want to encompass in the show like

  726. people have to understand it's that journey it's the discipline along the way yeah it's gonna be

  727. the theme and you never know who you're impacting you know i mean some people because some people

  728. or have that fear

  729. of socializing

  730. or going out in public

  731. so like

  732. you don't know how

  733. your podcast

  734. can impact that person

  735. you know what I mean

  736. so like

  737. you know

  738. you might be putting

  739. out content

  740. that resonates with them

  741. and they're like

  742. oh damn

  743. you know what I mean

  744. like this is

  745. you know what I mean

  746. this is what helps me out

  747. and that's why I'm not

  748. biased against people

  749. that do that stuff

  750. or play video games

  751. like go ahead

  752. do what you

  753. if it makes you happy

  754. go ahead and go for it

  755. you know what I mean

  756. you know what I mean

  757. everybody has their own niche

  758. you know what I mean

  759. but for me

  760. it's like

  761. I even have a PS5

  762. I barely play that thing

  763. you know what I mean

  764. it's like

  765. i'm i'm yeah you were saying you weren't gonna get call of duty 6 because you're like i just

  766. know as soon as you said that i was like all right cool he's on the same wavelength as me

  767. where yeah no i don't want to be addicted to that man it's like it's great and the new um

  768. um the what's that game that's coming out um uh i forget the name of it but it was a new game

  769. that's coming out i'm like if i get that game i'm done it's like i'm folded i'm like i'll be so

  770. so committed to it you know what i mean so it's like i gotta i gotta focus you know what i mean

  771. and there's nothing wrong with gaming i feel like gaming is a good outlet for people to just you

  772. know i mean there's nothing wrong with absolutely nothing wrong with tv it's when you're not

  773. showering exactly it's when you're not exactly you know when it's feeding into your depression

  774. and that's exactly what it is and people don't understand that like it's funny you say that

  775. because when i when i got diagnosed with my depression the doctor was asking me crazy

  776. questions like that he's like oh what are your daily habits and what are you doing like have

  777. you been showering i'm like no i haven't showered in two days like and like you like oh do you have

  778. daily habits that you typically do and i'm like i'll tell him he's like when was the last time

  779. you did i'm like damn like a week ago and he's like yeah okay this is what you have you have

  780. depression i'm like damn i didn't realize that like you know what i mean that that was the that

  781. was how you diagnose depression you know what i mean like your daily habits you start like

  782. not caring about them you don't care about your personal hygiene you care about your personal

  783. health when you lose the will to do something you used to love exactly for me it's almost like

  784. gaming is a because i don't play so much that i won't like it but if i'm sitting there and i'm

  785. like man that chess game or whatever I play makes me happy but now I'm just sitting there like

  786. people talk about it and it's funny because you could go on to reddit and hear people talking

  787. about whether they're struggling with video game addiction they're like dude I have all these games

  788. and I just don't know which one to play and it's like maybe you don't have to play anything right

  789. now like your your brain is looking for that dopamine exactly exactly it's it's that's a you

  790. hit it on the spot man it's everybody wants that that rush you know i mean that goes back to that

  791. instant gratification you know what i mean like i want to feel that now like i don't care about

  792. the long term i don't want to wait i don't want to wait i want it right now you know what i mean

  793. that's that's their mentality you know what i mean i'm like you have to be okay with suffering for a

  794. while you know what i mean like that's the whole thing like when i started my business i suffered

  795. like crazy for the first two years man i was like damn do i hang it up now i'm like i wasn't having

  796. a lot of business and i was struggling you know what i mean and you know at the time i was paying

  797. child support and i was behind on child support and dealing with that stuff and i'm like damn

  798. what the hell do i do like do i hang it up and i'm like no i'm not giving up you know what i mean

  799. like you know i'm supposed to follow social convention be like hey you know what this is

  800. not gonna work out for you you know what i mean they say that the business fails in the first

  801. year or two you know what i mean i'm like i'm not gonna be that i don't want to be that statistic

  802. i want to i want to push through that obstacle and let's let's make it work you know what i mean

  803. And I'm glad I did that because if I didn't do that, I would be following suit with everybody else, you know what I mean?

  804. Like, okay, hey, yeah, I did try and start a business and it didn't work, but now I could be like, hey, I started a business and I thrived, you know what I mean?

  805. I persevered, you know what I mean?

  806. I trudged through those tough times, you know what I mean, to get to where I'm at now.

  807. It's not all rainbow and, you know, everything going good.

  808. You got to go through a lot of stuff, you know what I mean?

  809. And the obstacles are what make you, you know what I mean?

  810. People take that for granted.

  811. They be like, oh, well, I went through some.

  812. Okay, but listen, you went through that, but guess what?

  813. that's another chink in your armor you know what i mean now that's something you could deal with

  814. you know what i mean you experience that so now guess what now you know how to deal with that in

  815. the future so now as you carry on and progress you know what i mean you go and and build your

  816. business or whatever whatever it is you have in life you know what i mean now you can say hey you

  817. know what i experienced that and i know how to deal with it boom i'm gonna show that to the side

  818. because now i know how to deal with that you know what i mean and like people take experience for

  819. granted they'd be like oh i would never want to go through that again no i'm glad i went through

  820. that shit you know what i mean i'm glad i went through that tough time i'm glad i didn't have

  821. five dollars in my pocket i'm glad you know cops are knocking on my door because i was behind on

  822. child support no because that made me stronger that made me really really realize that life is

  823. real you know what i mean you have to go out there and put the work in you know what i mean

  824. nothing's handed to you there's nobody there to bail you out mom and dad are not there like

  825. hey i got you no problem you're fine because guess what now you're gonna have that mindset

  826. where you're like i'm complacent i can still fuck up you know what i mean no problem i can still

  827. just you know wing it mom and dad got me you know what i mean and that's the society it's crazy

  828. oh man no yeah people do take it for granted i i think for like the last i don't even know

  829. five maybe ten years um every time my mom gives me money she makes sure she writes this is a loan

  830. yeah this is not you know what i mean like so if i am going to use her as credit i gotta know that

  831. that can be paid back in some way shape or form it's nothing is yeah nothing's a gift or whatever

  832. it says unless it's saying okay this is a gift where we're doing something like that but it's

  833. done with good intentions you got a good mom she knows that you know saying even she writes this

  834. alone it's good for your mindset like okay hey mom mom's got my back but like don't get comfortable

  835. you know what i mean like you gotta pay this shit back you know what i mean like exactly you can't

  836. fail you gotta they're relying on you to push through that obstacle and say hey listen okay

  837. you you gave me this blanket and i will tell you what i'm gonna make a cape out of that shit and

  838. just soar through this, this obstacle. You know what I mean? And I feel like that's so important,

  839. man. Everybody gets so comfortable, man. That's why I'm like, you know, that's why I always say

  840. complacency is a disease, man. You know what I mean? Mediocrity is a disease. You know what I

  841. mean? You, you could be like, okay, you know what I made ends meet. I'm good. But you have to want

  842. more out of life, man. Like if you, if you just go about life, like, okay, you know what, this and

  843. this is done. It's fine. I'm okay with that. If you do that, you're going to, you're going to just

  844. keep living this mundane life where it's like repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. You know

  845. know what i mean i know i want more you know what i mean like you have to say look so i want more i

  846. want to be able to just do things in life i want to be able to travel you know what i mean even if

  847. it's to another state it doesn't have to be in another country you just want more out of life

  848. you know what i mean if people don't grasp that concept they're gonna forever be stuck in that

  849. rut where they're like okay whatever their excitement is going out to a club or a restaurant

  850. to eat food like no i don't want it to be like that you know what i mean i want to experience

  851. life i want to travel for you if if that's your idea you know once a month you go to a nice

  852. restaurant or like you know you're fine making whatever i just want to throw a number like 30

  853. or 40 i mean you look at median in this area most jobs most good jobs are paying about that so

  854. if you can make that work in 2025 i understand because not everybody's built to be an entrepreneur

  855. like no they're not you know i hate when entrepreneurs get out here like oh you nine

  856. to fivers need to quit what you're doing and stuff like this no like i have i have at least nine to

  857. five in contracts you know what i mean i'm at working contracts guaranteed throughout that time

  858. and then time in addition to that so it's like if you're not ready to go all in on it there's

  859. nothing wrong with that but if you're not going all in and you're sad try going all in see if it

  860. doesn't make you feel great see if that doesn't give you enough dopamine i mean dude you're hit

  861. it right in the middle because i always say like that's the thing like that sometimes the risk is

  862. worth the reward you know what i mean like you have to just take that step like shit you want

  863. to step in that water it might be it might have alligators or crocodiles in it but if you can

  864. cross there and there's a there's a there's a prize from the side let's take that risk you

  865. know what i mean but you won't know till you do it you know that's why they say people you know

  866. you know a huge percentage of people die and they have regret because they didn't make that move or

  867. they didn't take that chance you know i mean take that risk you know what i mean so you

  868. it's like you have to man you know what i mean especially the society we live in now where we

  869. have so many resources man shit i wish i had a modicum of the resources we have now you know

  870. what i mean you have youtube all these platforms where you can learn anything you can pick up

  871. anything you know what i mean and it's sad because it's out there but a lot of people

  872. still utilize it you know what i mean they're just like no you know what i'm cool with just

  873. we lost it over a generation we did we did lose it man my my mom got into crafting she's in her

  874. late sixties. She got into crafting through YouTube and watching people and like put a

  875. whole room in her house in retirement, kept learning stuff. I feel I'm going to be the

  876. same way, but like my kids aren't, you know, they're still in school. They're like, I'm

  877. learning what's in school. I'm like, you don't want to take anything you learn in school

  878. further. Like, you know how many things there were in my graphic design course where like

  879. we had the ability to do it but absolutely do you remember youtube when it first started it was like

  880. it was like man popping red balloon yeah it wasn't like i'll watch it like it's just a stupid viral

  881. video you know now it's like so much content like it could be as stupid as the you order a new

  882. machine or something you'd be like damn let me i want to know how this machine is assembled or how

  883. it works and you could almost 100 of the time you can go on there type the machine and be like okay

  884. this is a video of unboxing or how you assemble it you know what i mean and i've done that this

  885. the i have gym equipment you know where i'm like you know what i mean i look it up and i'm like i'm

  886. glad because it's sometimes like a bolt doesn't align a certain way you got to move them move the

  887. machine a certain way to get it to thread in like youtube is a huge huge resource and a lot of people

  888. don't utilize it you know what i mean and i'm like dude i live on youtube like my notifications on my

  889. phone is all youtube videos of different pages i've got whether it's motivational speakers but

  890. they're spiritual you know what i mean like i like steven furtick back into that i like jocko

  891. willing yeah i'll give i'll give you some and then that's all i would i mean ask anybody that

  892. knows me like if you're if you're around me 90 of the time it's gonna be a youtube video playing

  893. in the background whether i played on my phone or my bluetooth speaker there's always something

  894. i'm trying to pull in you know whether it's motivational or inspirational or educational

  895. you know what i mean i've even you know started dabbling with learning other languages on youtube

  896. because it's there you know what i mean like why waste your time so it kills me when people sit

  897. there and they scroll for 45 minutes to an hour like whoa what what did that benefit you okay yeah

  898. you saw a couple posts that made you laugh or you liked it you know what i mean but like that's time

  899. you don't get back so you just invested 45 minutes to an hour scrolling when you could have picked up

  900. a a new skill you know what i mean or you know inquired about a new hobby or or even spend time

  901. with chad gbt chad gbt is huge i know a lot of people use that it's just great it's so funny

  902. you say that because it's so crazy we're low on time we actually just rolled over an hour so i'm

  903. not going to be able to tell you all the hats it's another it's another trip yeah i'll let you know

  904. some things even just uh the voice got a lot better so while i'm driving i'll tell it look

  905. i'm looking to brainstorm that changes the way it responds to you you just say hey and then it'll

  906. keep poking the questions rather than try to have a conversation with you and then when you get to

  907. wherever you are yep all that chat history is saved in your computer so you can go back through

  908. your brainstorms like you hit it on the money and it's funny because like i always tell people like

  909. this this phone is a is a huge resource it's a tool and i i find it really hard to sit on here

  910. and scroll like i'm always like big on my time like i feel like time is like time is money you

  911. know what i mean like if not literally in a currency sense but like you can benefit from

  912. what you choose to put in front of your face on your phone you know what i mean or the the

  913. information you choose to disseminate to your platform that's why that's why like i always take

  914. breaks from social media i don't there's times i don't go on for a week you know because people

  915. are like always posting the same stuff about the same celebrity or whatever stuff to hear in every

  916. gossip whatever i'm like i don't i don't care for that you know i mean how is that going to benefit

  917. me i don't care about what p diddy's doing or what jay-z's doing you know i mean like a break i took

  918. i'm just coming off a month break listen right around the diddy stuff doesn't it feel good though

  919. like it just it just divests you from everything and it allows you to focus on what you need to

  920. get done you know what i mean and that's why i can't even post all the stuff that i got done

  921. yeah when i got off social and i locked in i literally i i posted once this week where i had

  922. three projects one of them was four different graphics one was an album cover one was a logo

  923. which they take like two weeks so it's like i'm literally working on three projects at a time yep

  924. but yet it's been two three months how much do you think in three months that i have and if i

  925. don't want to flood you and post i mean i could just go and post 26 in a day that's huge like

  926. there's people like that dude there's people like that that'll post like seven eight times in a day

  927. and the stuff they put out is just either complaining or you know just stupid stupid

  928. idolizing you know celebrities whatever whatever what's that getting you they don't care about you

  929. at the end of the day they're sitting pretty you know what i mean and you complaining is not going

  930. to help anybody else out you know what i mean like you just look miserable you know what i mean like

  931. are you really content with your life that you have to get on facebook and complain about every

  932. single thing in life like it doesn't serve any purpose so yeah i'm big i'm huge huge huge on

  933. on just divesting myself from social media and just taking like weeks off at a time because

  934. like you said it allows you to lock into what you want to get done you know what i mean and dude

  935. there's no way to feel and just like feel unproductive like damn i got this done this

  936. done you know what i mean i'm not distracted by social media and what who's doing what or

  937. who's talking to who or who's you know betray somebody else you know at this point i just say

  938. what am i ask myself what am i looking for yeah now if it's i like threads because you can go

  939. with just yeah i wanted to get into threads too that seems pretty interesting yeah you got it's

  940. I'm just scared to get down that rabbit hole because I feel like if I get into threads and I see people post like, and you can see like the preview of what they're posting, I'm like, damn, this sounds pretty good.

  941. I would like to jump on that.

  942. You know what I mean?

  943. But I haven't really dabbled with it like that.

  944. You know what I mean?

  945. No, it's highly engaging and you can see just your followers.

  946. So like one thing I like about Facebook, and this has happened, when I took the month break, somebody asked if I was all right.

  947. They're like, I haven't seen you.

  948. Dude, that's what they say.

  949. Exactly.

  950. It becomes like a community.

  951. it becomes like a thing where you have to know what happened where or and uh for most people

  952. i'd imagine that it's pretty much like an echo chamber for people like me or you who are

  953. connectors we know people of all different walks of life race creed religion you're gonna see like

  954. the things that are happening in this circle may not be happening over here so yeah i find struggle

  955. with okay who is my audience i have 20 to 29 29 to 35 i mean most of the listeners of this show

  956. are 32 to 39 but you know what do you it changes the way you think about all of it absolutely they're

  959. and capitalizing what we were talking about you know i'm talking more about stuff you know what

  960. i mean it'd be great to just put this disseminate some information that's going to help people you

  961. going to benefit them so i thank you for this opportunity i know you don't take it for granted

  962. but you live a life you do a lot of things that people think like you you do instagram in real

  966. it's about the the journey it's about persevering more than anything yeah and once they realize once

  967. you get to the end to success that there's still a journey exactly dude yeah it's like uh like they

  968. say if you go to the end of the space yep and you shoot an arrow out where is it gonna land yeah

  969. exactly 100 it goes but yeah man let's land the plane thank you man i appreciate it man it was
