Failure can [00:00:32.220] be frightening however as winston churchill reminds us success is all about going from [00:00:36.780] failure to failure without losing enthusiasm this is i will not lose podcast where we set out to [00:00:42.020] learn everything is learned from failure we must persevere and recognize it as one step closer to [00:00:47.430] success we brought him back by popular demand we got law the barber i'm your host tony ortiz and [00:00:53.810] we're here with law the barber good morning good morning we're gonna give an introduction for [00:00:59.270] people that didn't tune into the last episode okay so uh uh social media named lauren uh law [00:01:06.290] the barber um named lawrence right um owner of the barber pill which is a small upscale barber shop [00:01:13.210] in bethlehem pennsylvania and uh so far so good um building a true good community out of this uh [00:01:23.030] six-year run that i had so far and a lot has changed a lot of you know a lot of different [00:01:28.890] things came up uh actually the book bag drive was very successful you just had the book bag drive [00:01:33.930] yep um wasn't expecting the news to be there but it happened and the right message got conveyed [00:01:39.730] that you know when we do things like that we want to do it um in the right aspect for for the right [00:01:47.230] reasons all the time because um that one particularly made me realize and it was my [00:01:52.770] second time doing it by myself like that with carter and um sharonda miss debbie hasiel helped [00:01:59.750] out and a host of others that donated you know thank them all um for what they did and especially [00:02:07.050] the folks who came out in the morning to help me um carter came earlier than everybody else to set [00:02:12.270] certain things up and once he did that everybody followed suit so it was great um uh particularly [00:02:19.540] want to mention a family that came and uh that kind of set the tone for the day for me well tell [00:02:26.310] me about it so i was a young lady with four kids and um she uh was very transparent about um what [00:02:36.490] what it meant to her um in terms of um having support like that in the community and uh it [00:02:43.450] kind of opened up my eyes you know made me see how much fortunate most of us are versus someone [00:02:49.150] who's in a kind of like a tough spot and um when the help is there it's it's such a great thing to [00:02:55.930] see that um that what we did um helped her in such a great way yeah that was brave of her to come out [00:03:02.890] and be vocal about it yes i was very i she was on the news right i did see the news clip yes that [00:03:08.930] was her yes oh that's amazing and i'm like man um yeah that one got me a little bit so i just had [00:03:15.570] to mention that one it was still on my mind fresh so oh that's sad to say it put a perspective on [00:03:21.470] the things we do in the community it really does matter absolutely whether any kind of business [00:03:28.310] but specifically a barbershop because it's so different it's so much more intimate in terms [00:03:34.130] of you getting to know people over years you know it could be um how you like pass down a torch [00:03:41.570] right um you start cutting the son then the son becomes a girl you know a teenager then he becomes [00:03:47.950] a man then he starts his family but before him was his father right and and so on and so forth [00:03:53.580] it's the same thing with people in the community how you build your rapport and how you do things [00:03:58.860] it really does matter i hear that man i had a blessed week i had a couple things that put into [00:04:05.610] perspective just what we do why we do it you know oh man speaking of that uh as i was telling you [00:04:12.730] this story earlier about you know like remember the last episode we talked about mental health and [00:04:17.090] um uh that has um is still there and i'm still making sure that people know that you should be [00:04:24.880] aware uh you should check on someone um each day whoever you pick you know it could be any random [00:04:32.340] person just make sure you check on somebody um because you just never know where they are yeah [00:04:38.120] and that happened a couple of times um especially this week um that happened yesterday to me [00:04:42.820] actually and it was a good thing my wife mentioned the person and i hadn't check up with this person [00:04:50.160] in a while so i'm like wow for her to say that name it kind of triggered me so i was like oh man [00:04:55.640] let me let me really put out a call and see what happened and lo and behold that person was going [00:05:01.620] through a rough time yeah yeah so they needed you yeah yeah i mean i needed to hear them and they [00:05:06.460] needed to hear me yeah you know what i mean it's a way to put it it's a support system so [00:05:10.840] it goes both ways nice man yeah nice i gotta get are you gonna be over at the barber shop [00:05:17.390] this afternoon i know you guys meet up every friday um they'll they usually come out at [00:05:23.190] spur of the moment sometimes um well we know my four o'clock's gonna be there no matter what [00:05:28.970] so that's about the time when everybody starts coming so we'll be there um well at least me and [00:05:34.310] him i know will be there um the other guy you know they all have stuff going so we'll see if [00:05:39.410] everybody shows up sometimes they pop up in spurts sometimes it's fredo you know drain surgeon we [00:05:45.390] mentioned that yeah big shout out to fredo exalt jujitsu imec power sometimes hasiel [00:05:51.650] um wagner and my man tony here will show up so that's pretty much the it or renard may pop up [00:05:59.200] once in a while so there you go those are the names you know um but it's it's good to have guys [00:06:04.430] like you around though so you know i learn things from all of you even though you might not think so [00:06:07.990] but i pick up on things and uh it's very helpful to have a good group of guys like you around so [00:06:14.550] that we can have a support system for each other yeah absolutely reach out to these guys at a [00:06:20.430] couple yeah here pull do me a favor pull the mic a little closer to you yeah that sounds good um [00:06:27.050] so what else are you working on what do you have in the works another book bag drive just went by [00:06:31.790] right um i'm thinking of um doing a coat drive and um i want to assist um carter with his uh [00:06:41.970] turkey drive if he does have it um don't want to talk too fast but that's the idea um if he does it [00:06:48.510] I'm going to go in and help out and we're going to see how many, uh, more people that we can get [00:06:54.050] to support that cause. And obviously, you know what, this is for people who are less fortunate, [00:06:59.370] who don't have, um, people who can't afford it, homeless, if you're home, you know what I mean? [00:07:05.030] So every little bit counts, every little bit helps. Every little bit counts, man. That's a [00:07:11.580] great way to put it. Every little bit helps. Cause you know, sometimes you see like these [00:07:15.380] huge companies doing these large drives and you know they may be doing it for a tax write-off and [00:07:20.460] they may hit a large impact you know but it's good to know a little bit that you do effects like [00:07:26.840] sometimes like you say even if it's just one person you know somebody listening is going to [00:07:31.080] pick up and be like of course man there's people i didn't even know there was people doing stuff [00:07:35.200] like this allentown bethlem you know that's what happened with the book bag drive and for us to get [00:07:41.510] to those people um really and truly though the book bag drive i wanted to get to the people who [00:07:47.030] are um afraid to ask for help yeah um sometimes pride gets in the way and that sucks but um [00:07:57.880] really and truly those are the people i was trying to get to come out but we got to the [00:08:03.170] ones that we got to and i'm pretty sure the next time around they'll be there [00:08:06.410] you know because now they know we'll be there and it's a consistency thing um when i was [00:08:14.390] coined coining the term building a cornerstone um i kind of took a page out of bob marley's book [00:08:21.310] because the builder refused that song he talks about how the builder refused that stone that [00:08:28.260] same stone became a great stone which he was talking about him okay you know his father [00:08:32.560] rejecting him right um i'm not familiar with that but that's great when you look it up you'll see [00:08:39.360] what i'm talking about um so that was a special story about barb marley and his between his him [00:08:44.480] and his dad but the cornerstone like building a cornerstone um you want to be um present and um [00:08:53.240] active in your community right and that's what the barbershop is pretty much that's what we do [00:09:00.600] um it's not just about cutting hair and um sometimes it doesn't look that way at first [00:09:07.180] and then after the cutting hair gets to be a natural thing now the work um the rest of the [00:09:14.670] work has to be done now because now you have community relations and how you deal with the [00:09:19.230] community right so the consistency of us let's say every august now i'm going to do the book bag [00:09:26.980] drive every august now so that it's a consistent thing and that's what i think resonates with a [00:09:35.940] lot of folks if you're consistent with it you're good about doing it and it's genuine you're you're [00:09:42.560] really showing that you care and we forget about those things sometimes we just said the little [00:09:49.030] things you just have to make sure you show genuinely that you do care and you care what [00:09:52.910] happens to people absolutely because we lost we lost some of that and i was telling that to um [00:09:59.820] the interviewer from 69 news that um some people haven't bounced back from that whole [00:10:06.420] covid situation and are still struggling you know so it anything like that that we can do [00:10:14.260] to put people back on track let's just say yeah um and i always say if you're blessed i think we [00:10:21.460] should bless others if you're blessed like a turkey drive that's such a great way because [00:10:27.080] you know food's expensive absolutely oh my gosh it turns into memories you know what i mean you [00:10:33.340] have a nice turkey you have a you know nice sides and stuff like that yeah i remember the bad [00:10:39.500] thanksgivings you know what i mean and right it's nice to to put something nice even if it's small [00:10:45.340] you could be appreciative for it so think about this so let let's take a mind journey real quick [00:10:50.520] So you're thinking about the hot food. [00:10:52.900] You're there with people that you love, right? [00:10:55.900] We all care about each other. [00:10:57.540] And now we're sharing a meal together, like breaking bread. [00:11:00.460] That's a wonderful feeling. [00:11:02.430] Yeah, there's something about sharing a meal. [00:11:06.530] That's the one thing that I won't, in terms of Zoom meetings versus meeting in person. [00:11:12.670] There's this whole thing, like after the pandemic, it's acceptable. [00:11:15.750] It was really hard to get somebody for a Zoom meeting before that. [00:11:18.990] now people are like oh do i have that as an option right but to set myself up and be like okay um [00:11:25.710] i'm not gonna meet anybody in person sometimes there's a connection where you just you know [00:11:31.190] you share a sandwich over lunch or even sharing a cup of coffee something about what we're doing [00:11:35.650] food it's uh it's definitely something intimate it's that's cool man it's hospitality i i think [00:11:43.170] it's um a part of being um grateful it's gratitude to show that you appreciate someone you know and [00:11:50.320] that goes a long way and these these are the little things that we talk about that we all [00:11:56.040] sometimes may forget you know how how grateful that we should be remember we were we just said [00:12:02.230] this this morning right thankful that we got up this morning right yeah and that's the start of [00:12:06.750] it you know because without that you can't go any further because we all know somebody didn't make [00:12:13.610] it today nah you know an exercise in gratitude i was working with a coach one time and he's like [00:12:20.810] tell me something you're grateful for and i'm like you know my wife and he's like it's easy to be [00:12:26.590] grateful for your wife like you're picking the the big things because i need to train you to be [00:12:30.830] grateful for that pencil on the desk in front of you right and that kind of switched my perspective [00:12:36.380] i'm like okay so you switched your brain like that you know flipped it even when we uh it was [00:12:41.440] funny i had my buddy johnny in here last week and we had uh we had a picture up of when i'll show it [00:12:48.260] to you i had a monitor stand yeah with my mic's garbage tied to like where it was and the way [00:12:55.420] that the monitor would swivel i had like this much room to come back and forth and get the sweet spot [00:13:00.380] and i did that for like for months oh man but i was so grateful that when we had the idea we wanted [00:13:06.500] to put out an episode for gil thompson that turned into all this and now we have the whole set see uh [00:13:12.840] but we just we did what we had and dude these are they're not expensive they're not expensive but [00:13:20.220] we had what you know i was grateful for what we had i wasn't sitting there like oh i'm not [00:13:24.620] gonna do this now because we don't have right you know you used what you had you used your resources [00:13:29.780] and and there we go back to what we were saying using your resources the things around you and [00:13:36.660] um i mean i've got this from a lot of people that they didn't know it was a barbershop which is [00:13:41.360] pretty i mean to me it's pretty cool that it's just there and those who know and who come there [00:13:47.330] know it's there but it's for the people who walk by it every day and not know what it what it is [00:13:52.790] yeah you can't really you can't really tell from the outside yeah i pulled up to the place next to [00:13:58.950] And I thought I was in the wrong place. [00:14:00.430] The GPS takes you to the, the, like the, is that the lawyers next door? [00:14:05.310] Yeah. [00:14:05.710] Well, well, um, it's the, uh, the apartment building and then you got the [00:14:09.750] salon and then the library across the street, maybe that's what I was looking [00:14:13.890] at the salon and I was like, is he cutting out of the salon or, I don't know. [00:14:17.550] It usually takes them right there. [00:14:18.810] But then when they, once they pull up, they see the barber pill in the window. [00:14:22.350] Yep. [00:14:23.190] So for those that don't know, Law has a single chair barbershop in Bethlehem, PA. [00:14:28.090] um really high tech too you book through an app he has his own app with the i don't know if you [00:14:34.330] guys can see on the camera but we have the logo um the barber pill yes but you go and click that [00:14:43.250] logo on the app go and set up booking i know people use like uh different booking apps but [00:14:50.150] yeah i don't know anybody that has their own that's actually you had that a while for a while [00:14:54.930] For a while, yeah, because it was Jason Majors. [00:14:59.010] I forgot to mention Jason because Jason comes by too. [00:15:02.030] Yeah, to the barbershop. [00:15:03.190] Yeah, so he told me one day, he's like, why are you being stubborn? [00:15:05.930] You should just get electronic booking, you know, stop writing appointments down. [00:15:10.430] And I was like, now I got to deal with all this, you know, internet stuff. [00:15:15.820] You know, I didn't really want to go that route. [00:15:17.800] So I decided to call up Efex Apps. [00:15:21.500] And he said, okay, I said, how much to build the app? [00:15:24.740] he tells me what will it be a month he tells me and i'm like all right let's do it because [00:15:30.000] it would be an investment for a lifetime that's how i looked at it and i'm like okay if this is [00:15:36.640] going to be really serious i have to get serious with how i do business you know what i mean so [00:15:42.430] um watching tyreek tuesdays and how he mentioned you know he's giving the tale of the story [00:15:48.620] of how tyreek built his app through effects and what it has done how it has changed buildings [00:15:54.240] how businesses are built and how the payment system is set up. [00:15:59.640] And I had to learn all those things. [00:16:01.140] And once you learn it, it becomes a lifesaver because, you know, [00:16:06.020] I think I had mentioned this in the first episode, [00:16:09.520] how the wife was like, why are they calling you at this time? [00:16:11.800] And so I had to cut, we had to end that. [00:16:15.500] We had to stop that. [00:16:17.740] So we had to stop that. [00:16:18.940] So I said, okay, let me build an app. [00:16:20.820] But even though I built an app, what I did was I put the link on all the social media. [00:16:25.580] So wherever the barber pill is, wherever a lot of the barber is, I've tried to put a link, whether to the website, because you can book from the website and the app's embedded with that link to it. [00:16:34.380] So I put one everywhere, but people are still old fashioned. [00:16:39.000] They'll walk up to the barbershop and, hey, can I get a haircut? [00:16:42.160] And I'm like, well, unfortunately I do everything by appointments and this is my spiel to the persons who are going to walk through the door. [00:16:49.040] some of them don't know so I spend the time to explain how it works and that's it you know [00:16:55.020] it's disappointing when they can't get the haircut that they walked up to the barbershop for but [00:17:01.180] on my sites I put appointments only for a reason right but some some people are unaware of that [00:17:09.580] and I get I get it so I continue to push the app and I continue to let them know it's free to [00:17:15.320] download so if you download it you can see all the appointments that are available you can book [00:17:20.520] whichever day it's a free-for-all um there are rules you have to cancel before 24 hours just [00:17:26.580] like a doctor's office or you're gonna get charged do you pay right through the app too [00:17:31.980] absolutely there's a paid system in there they pay they could make a deposit or pay for the full [00:17:37.700] haircut yeah man so you're on another level with that just an easy way to do it and then [00:17:43.590] on top of it because i know how it goes once they get there they're gonna want another way to pay [00:17:50.930] let's say they made a deposit and they want a complete payment right i decided to come up with [00:17:55.850] getting the zelle getting um i was cash app venmo all the other ones because you never know and i [00:18:04.640] have a credit card um card readers and stuff like that because nobody really carries cash that much [00:18:10.280] anymore i mean i know some guys who are old school i only take cash out really when i'm getting a [00:18:15.260] haircut for the most part right so you know there's still right so i would carry cash because [00:18:20.580] i still do but um in our day and age most of everything is not necessary well everything [00:18:27.280] mostly electronic for me i wish it was just one app but no i do the same thing with my clients i [00:18:33.760] except Venmo, PayPal, Cash App. [00:18:37.420] And then everybody's like, oh, I have Apple Pay. [00:18:40.000] That's like the one thing that I don't. [00:18:43.600] You know, you brought up a sore subject, [00:18:45.180] even though I'm not an Apple guy, right? [00:18:47.880] But I had to get with the program, right? [00:18:51.490] So I ended up getting a- [00:18:52.690] Wait, get with what program? [00:18:54.190] Getting an iPad so I can see what the app- [00:18:56.290] Why do you have, that's not- [00:18:57.270] Because I had to know, because you know what? [00:18:59.510] There was a bug on my app that I couldn't relate to [00:19:03.230] because i have an android so i needed to i needed to see what these apple users were telling me [00:19:09.890] because we had an incident and this person was describing this horrendous it sounded crazy to me [00:19:15.570] so i'm like okay you know what i'm gonna resolve that issue i'm gonna get an apple device and get [00:19:22.640] an apple thing you know what is apple id yeah so you have to get one of those and then you set it [00:19:28.400] up and obviously my my app is on the apple platform so i i have something of the sort for [00:19:34.500] that right but it was to see the bugs that they're telling me because i can't i don't know what to [00:19:40.860] tell them because i don't have an apple phone so i don't know what the bug is you had to troubleshoot [00:19:45.160] so i ended up doing that and once i went into my app kind of made some changes re-download it [00:19:51.660] and re-save everything kind of went smooth and if i had a problem i can always call effects to [00:19:57.180] resolve it remotely for me so it's kind of it's a lifesaver it took the stress off of me worrying [00:20:03.530] about people for the most part but i do have the people who still you know come in and walking and [00:20:10.390] stuff like that but yeah you're gonna have that i still people still write me checks i'm like yeah [00:20:14.470] but take all this electronic uh well yeah you know usually if it has to go through an accounting [00:20:19.730] department or something i guess they can't really just sign on cash exactly right exactly so now i [00:20:25.830] have um scan to pay also yeah i saw that in your shop yeah so i have the little guy and it's the [00:20:31.850] same system that's inside the app which is great so now it's uniform now if they come i said okay [00:20:37.840] just scan the uh paypal right there and you pay that's it because you could be a guest you don't [00:20:42.580] have to necessarily have a i think a paypal to do that you can just pay just like that and i have a [00:20:49.170] card um it's almost like when you go to a show and you want someone to pay for products so i have [00:20:56.350] this card key that's a pull string that i could just show them and they scan to pay if i'm ever [00:21:01.910] out yeah it's pretty cool nice nice just little things for them you know i gotta get up on some [00:21:07.920] stuff like that just for the coolness factor i do have something with my business card i gotta put [00:21:12.120] you onto it uh the qr code when they scan it it opens up their contacts and it pre-fills all my [00:21:18.080] information my website my social media oh i think carter did some type of scan thing on the back of [00:21:24.580] the uh on my business card for me i think carter has the beacon he had uh he has like the little [00:21:30.340] website that has his links to all this stuff yes yes so he definitely so he changed it shout out [00:21:35.980] to carter i hope he's feeling better yeah carter man you are the guy man he was supposed to be here [00:21:41.060] today with us yeah right oh man but i hope he's feeling better but yeah he has these little [00:21:46.720] gadgets, man. He knows how to work his way, you know, internet wise, you know, websites and all [00:21:51.220] this stuff. He's definitely social media savvy. I have some photos he took from the last photo [00:21:56.800] party that I got to post. Oh, okay. Yeah. Oh man, definitely. I was asking him for something to [00:22:04.220] push that even though it was supposed to be today, it's not going to be anymore, but. [00:22:08.300] Yeah, that broke my heart. Yeah. I was excited about that. I was excited to go to that. I was [00:22:13.900] all prepped and ready i had my chair i had my station i had my table yeah i was ready i don't [00:22:19.140] know maybe it'll work out better not being over the holiday or something i think i think everything [00:22:23.500] worked out for a reason yeah so i think it's going to be even better now that he you know that this [00:22:28.600] little hiccup happened you know i appreciate him taking it so seriously you know what i mean he [00:22:32.840] could have just said well nobody's taking this serious anymore and oh no no he had the party but [00:22:38.320] so i i spoke to him yesterday and i said way to uh take the responsibility it's almost like when [00:22:43.740] And when I caught that, I had to shut down. [00:22:47.220] I let the customers know who came that day. [00:22:50.160] I called each one. [00:22:51.220] It's all about the responsibility. [00:22:52.800] Because remember, if I'm servicing people, I'm responsible for your health and well-being if you're in the shop. [00:23:00.970] Yeah. [00:23:01.310] Well, as a barber, you got to. [00:23:02.810] Yeah, you got to. [00:23:03.510] I have to touch you. [00:23:04.470] I'm in your space. [00:23:05.210] I was just going to say, that's a contact sport. [00:23:07.490] Yeah. [00:23:10.100] Exactly. [00:23:11.320] So, you know, I think that's great. [00:23:12.940] he took the initiative and uh you know that that's the way you have to do it oh man so i wanted to [00:23:20.480] talk a little bit you're testing for belt stripe man yeah this is coming up man what a crazy [00:23:27.740] so the savage race i forgot to update you so the savage race went well um had a a three three man [00:23:35.560] team this time um and uh matt who is a triathlon shout out to matt who's going to europe to go [00:23:42.920] participate in the iron man contest oh wow so yeah um he won this the the race itself he was first [00:23:51.640] um wow i was 18th and i forgot what um alex brother um oh man i'm throwing a blank [00:23:59.680] but um he was the third guy and um we did good overall we all showed up we all finished [00:24:07.360] that was i think i saw you have pictures of the finish yes right right so i yeah i'll throw them [00:24:12.500] up and and uh yeah i'll send it to you um so that was an accomplishment itself because i was [00:24:18.800] training since february for that yeah we talked did we talk about it on the last podcast yes yes [00:24:24.400] Because some people made a commitment and they all like, in the end, nobody showed. [00:24:31.840] Anyway, so it was supposed to be a couple of guys jumping on this one, but it didn't work out that way. [00:24:37.860] So the very first one was my motivation. [00:24:43.610] So it was me and Wagner. [00:24:45.270] So you remember Wagner. [00:24:46.750] So me and Wagner went to the first one and that was it. [00:24:49.070] I was hooked. [00:24:50.540] So I said, you know what? [00:24:52.360] This is definitely something to look forward to. [00:24:55.240] and it's um an accomplishment in terms of you have to work for it you can't just show up and [00:25:02.580] run that race you have to be prepared right just like anything else you you have to be prepared [00:25:09.060] for certain things you can't just go out and you know like this test coming up mentally that's [00:25:14.520] draining this this whole preparation it's like the the the fight or flight and so explain for [00:25:21.120] people that don't know about the the test what are you testing for all right what sport i'm i'm a [00:25:27.300] part of kim's black belt academy um it has three schools one in allentown one in bethlehem one in [00:25:34.500] quaker town and um so i'm going for the fourth dan test this time around so it's it's gonna be [00:25:42.200] a challenge and uh i'm a little nervous but i'm working my way that's why i keep running with [00:25:48.360] to keep my level of um i'd say cardio cardio because it's not going to be easy and i know [00:25:56.400] master kim is very tricky so i have to expect the unexpected because he will just switch it on you [00:26:04.180] on that day so i had him he did that to me one time i was supposed to do a specific kick and [00:26:10.180] he's like nope you're gonna do this kick so it's almost like let's say somebody see your potential [00:26:15.660] and they know you can do something, [00:26:17.420] they'll say, okay, I'm going to bump you a level up [00:26:20.020] because I know you can do this. [00:26:21.960] Yeah, I can see that. [00:26:23.120] And he'll do that to challenge you. [00:26:24.780] So that's part of it. [00:26:27.360] So there's a level of preparation [00:26:28.920] and then a level of unpreparation [00:26:30.800] because you got to just deal with it. [00:26:31.380] Because you have to expect the unexpected, yeah. [00:26:33.340] Aye, aye, aye. [00:26:34.140] Yeah, so that's what's coming up. [00:26:37.300] So I'm going to keep running. [00:26:39.060] But that's so adaptable to life. [00:26:41.380] There's so many things in life you're like, [00:26:43.200] okay i have to lay this out or set this up i mean even just like uh anything could go wrong with [00:26:51.830] all these different cameras and microphones and stuff people see one right steady conversation [00:26:56.850] but there's a lot that comes to put that together exactly you know exactly we're in a set right now [00:27:02.810] it's so bright he's got the sunglasses yeah right i had to i was like wow like you changed it you [00:27:07.950] change it around so pending this test you'll be uh what like what's your title or no it's it's [00:27:14.970] well it's not about title because um he asked me one day i had a conversation with him and i was [00:27:19.590] like um can i um order the belt without the stripes because i don't the stripes don't really [00:27:27.120] prove a lot to me anyway um um and i took a page out of his book because he never wears his stripes [00:27:34.560] so he just wears a plain old belt yeah like a plane you know but i just see that as a sign of [00:27:41.060] being humble and um i think i i took that i took a page out of his book with that so um it's not [00:27:51.380] the title it's what i can offer back to the students who are coming up behind me that's how [00:27:59.080] i look at it so anytime he'll ask me to like let's say lead class or teach class i'm honored [00:28:04.500] you know um so it teaches me lessons too by teaching you know what i can do better what i [00:28:13.160] can improve on and i get feedback a lot from the students you know um great class today but you [00:28:18.960] know that lets me know i'm i'm at least doing um a good job with lead you know giving them their [00:28:25.040] workouts and and make it meaningful every time they come to class oh man yeah see that's why [00:28:31.180] you guys inspire me i'm like like everybody's doing multiple things you know what i mean it's [00:28:35.780] not like you were just training for the savage race you know you have the entrepreneur going on [00:28:40.460] the other side working putting everything together yeah and then you're looking at uh [00:28:45.860] we have to is it too early to talk about the building uh yeah so that now what i did was i [00:28:52.320] held off on the building so um a couple of things happened so with those it it comes to well this [00:28:59.040] all came to light um investors are coming in the area and just snatching up buildings so after the [00:29:06.380] first one that they took took off the market um the second building i found it was it was not in [00:29:13.200] contract at the time i'm guessing but as we dug in to see what was going on it went under contract [00:29:19.140] and then boom they just bought it right away it was like one two three it's like something is you [00:29:24.900] know obviously bethlehem's growing yeah so you you know obviously investors are going to come [00:29:30.400] around and you know get whatever big properties on whatever main street that you can get you know [00:29:36.520] in terms of business that's great because it's the same thing with um oh shout out to bethlehem [00:29:41.860] food co-op and north side alive so bethlehem food co-op is getting um their own location [00:29:47.880] and you see it's on broad street because there's a lot going on on broad street especially in the [00:29:54.140] downtown little area there yeah and that building is going to be a new building i don't know what [00:29:59.040] else is going to be in there but i know the food co-op is going to be in that building so i just [00:30:05.140] say i'm just going to wait i don't want to rush because when you rush things like that you all [00:30:11.860] usually can jump into a situation that you might not be ready for so i i i took a heat of caution [00:30:17.920] my wife um said you know let's just wait you know let's let's look at keep looking obviously [00:30:23.940] and then when the right situation comes up it'll come so in the meantime it's a month-to-month [00:30:30.040] situation and you know we'll see what what happens with with this because i don't know [00:30:34.160] if she's going to come up with a new lease or whatever but you know i was too happy about the [00:30:38.660] last one but you know it's all good i i see what the trend was the trend was to jack up rent by all [00:30:44.920] these um landlords you know um and basically for for money purposes you know what i mean yeah it's [00:30:53.990] not really increased service you're not adding new additions onto the building or and yeah because [00:31:00.210] you know if you were okay so if you're a landlord you're doing the work and you're taking care of [00:31:04.570] the place all right well we can see how that can even out but when you're not doing the work and [00:31:11.740] you know, things like that. [00:31:12.820] It's just crazy. [00:31:13.860] But either way, I adjusted [00:31:16.800] and I'm just going to make it work [00:31:19.140] for what it is right now, wherever I'm at. [00:31:22.050] But I'll be there until I don't have to be there. [00:31:27.110] So I already have my storage set up. [00:31:29.070] Like we said, we're grateful for it. [00:31:30.330] Hey, grateful for what is there. [00:31:31.530] Yeah, exactly. [00:31:32.170] So I'm also grateful that I have a storage [00:31:34.230] just in case something crazy happens. [00:31:35.750] I could, you know, take the whole first floor [00:31:37.910] and that's it. [00:31:39.090] So I'm trying to work on emptying out the lower area. [00:31:42.290] that's cool you know just clear it out just so i can have a peace of mind and i don't have to go [00:31:46.890] down the in the basement for anything and that's it and i'm just gonna keep you know doing what i'm [00:31:52.920] doing we'll keep the people posted yeah definitely keep doing what you're doing absolutely man i'm [00:31:58.400] gonna keep on doing my part you know that's all i could do is my part and i'm grateful for the [00:32:03.360] people who are willing to help me and along the way yeah do you have anybody else you want to [00:32:08.730] shout out oh man so who didn't we shout out today oh shout out to marv he's not here anymore but [00:32:13.990] on demand detailing that's my guy um he's in georgia now though um shout out to black viper [00:32:19.710] entertainment uh hopefully i'm not forgetting anybody here you gotta introduce me to some of [00:32:25.400] these people oh man so uh oh romeo g i just met him part of carter dj dj yeah shout out to dj i [00:32:35.150] just ran into him i've seen him a couple places since the photo party he was the last person to [00:32:39.830] come with a delivery i think when the backpack drive shout out to hasiel obviously i i said i [00:32:45.310] didn't really um shout him out um and jason that i didn't talk about so jason's usually the brains [00:32:51.870] we call him the brain because he comes real estate right well he comes up with these ideas man um but [00:32:57.990] it's so unique that we have different like you know when we come up with ideas and and things [00:33:03.170] like that um it's it's really cool talking with him his perspective is so different it's um [00:33:08.830] more on like i would say the level side of things you know so it's kind of great to have that [00:33:14.990] balance you know it's the same thing isaiah comes up with good ideas we're afraid oh um what are we [00:33:21.760] getting together for dinner again so that's the plan now we have to come up with um where we're [00:33:27.680] in terms of goals obviously we're gonna do this again um so isaiah said he doesn't like to make [00:33:34.320] the dates anymore so i'm gonna kind of reach out to everybody in the group text and see what when [00:33:39.680] we could come up with a date you know summer's over you know pretty much it's coming to an end [00:33:45.700] so we gotta um you know come up with some some meeting times even if it's recording over the [00:33:51.860] holiday oh i uh well it's the holiday yeah right now yeah you look exactly every day he's like he [00:33:58.480] was like oh you didn't know it was the holiday yes it's labor day every day weekend so fast [00:34:03.640] i may drop this i don't know if i'm gonna drop this on the holiday or just put some filler [00:34:09.160] episode well nobody i'm not gonna have anybody's attention oh my god well shout out to my wife [00:34:13.800] velma so it's our anniversary over this weekend oh happy anniversary how long oh man 13 [00:34:21.300] Oh, wow. [00:34:22.340] Yeah, 13, yeah. [00:34:24.100] We just celebrated seven. [00:34:25.740] We're getting there, we're getting there. [00:34:26.720] So 2010, right? [00:34:27.920] That makes it, yeah, that makes it 13. [00:34:31.130] Man. [00:34:31.850] Yeah, 13 and then 23 or 24. [00:34:36.200] So I met her in 2001. [00:34:38.060] Oh, you guys were together for 10 years before you got married? [00:34:40.480] Yeah, yeah. [00:34:41.600] That's awesome. [00:34:42.500] You guys do anything special? [00:34:44.940] Yeah, we're going to do probably like a group massage [00:34:48.620] and then maybe a dinner or something. [00:34:51.360] you know dinner lunch something like that real nice man man just nice and easy you know takes [00:34:57.520] work you got to have that balance if you're training for savage races and fourth degree [00:35:03.550] black belt taekwondo and training and running hard work yeah then we see him over at jujitsu [00:35:09.770] shout out to evan exalt jujitsu yep shout out to evan i'm gonna have him on sounds like something's [00:35:16.880] going on i didn't account for the fact that uh people will be home today oh boy that's all right [00:35:22.740] it's hey that's like show must go on hey it's life man definitely just like anything else you [00:35:27.840] know but do you have any other main points you want to go over uh yeah so the last thing was um [00:35:34.340] like we were talking about the mental health so i'll keep pushing the mental health as i said um [00:35:38.920] definitely working closely with preventive measures and i'm going to continue to do the walks [00:35:44.390] which every year that's going to happen um i think may right may is usually around when that happens [00:35:51.280] um like i said uh community events um being active staying active um continue to cut hair [00:36:01.900] and change lives one one day at a time so one person at a time it's only one chair so as long [00:36:09.490] as i'm there and i have health and strength i'll continue to do it shout out there you go man [00:36:15.300] that's the best you know that's the best way to even go about that you know well shout out to the [00:36:20.490] barber bill we got to do a whole episode on mental health that'll be pretty cool yeah because yeah [00:36:25.750] share stories i got stories when it comes down i've been through some things and yeah it's it's [00:36:31.950] strange because we don't live in a society where it's like uh men are allowed to open up or be [00:36:39.450] vulnerable or share do something like that yeah so i just say like all right forget that i'm gonna [00:36:44.470] make a podcast about it so yeah it's cool and then people do reach out yeah people reach out [00:36:50.410] personally so by you going out there and speaking and being vocal about things because it's serious [00:36:55.650] it's a really um you know it's it's not a situation until it is a situation and all i'm [00:37:04.410] trying to do is make sure it doesn't become a situation and the last thing you want if it is [00:37:08.670] a situation is to be like i can't talk to anybody it's right i mean you see what i'm saying so this [00:37:13.350] is why i always say at the if i have a little um skit or or a story i always say make sure you [00:37:20.530] check on somebody today that's important i'm gonna do that right after this episode and you know [00:37:28.250] because you you never know and it's a it's a good habit to keep because it may come back just might [00:37:35.510] come back to you somebody will call you to check on you you know yes i think i think it's a good [00:37:41.720] thing man well grateful i'm in a good place right now yeah you know this was nice yeah man this is [00:37:48.500] always a pleasure welcome to come back anytime we'll do something uh absolutely for season four [00:37:54.040] okay no worries um hopefully i'll be around hopefully i still gotta get um i don't have my [00:38:01.860] ending memorized oh you're ending but you gotta you gotta pretty much thank you for listening [00:38:06.140] thank you for the support check out i will not lose podcast.com i gotta put a little [00:38:10.320] i'll uh do some practice and memorize it or i'll punch it in and just cut this off and put the [00:38:16.080] perfect ending on it or whatnot you know i should this is a perfect ending this is a perfect ending [00:38:21.640] us laughing because we just had a great conversation right yeah no absolutely cheers [00:38:27.080] that's hot yeah man cheers grateful for this coffee it's not starbucks no but hey listen [00:38:33.240] this is the best stuff the homemade yeah man thanks for having me yeah definitely appreciate [00:38:41.410] Thank you for listening.
